Writing for planpage

The planpage skill

What the planpage skill teaches Claude Code, how to install and update it, and the two prompts the server offers.

The MCP server gives an agent the tools. The skill tells it when to use them. With the skill installed, Claude Code treats any plan-shaped task ("help me plan", "design", "propose", "write up", plan mode) as a document to publish in planpage before it presents anything in chat. Without it, the agent only uses planpage when you ask.

What the skill covers

The skill is a single SKILL.md file. It teaches the agent:

  • When to plan here. Any task bigger than a quick fix, plus design docs, decision records, reviews and research write-ups. Plans only in chat or a local file count as a failure.
  • The loop. Find the project from the git remote (and ask you the first time in a folder), start a session, search earlier work, publish, submit for review, wait or come back later, address feedback, then carry out the approved version step by step and finish with a report.
  • The block syntax and the guidelines in Writing documents.
  • Access. Only Publish and run connections carry out plans; Publish only connections publish and discuss.
  • Housekeeping. How to check for a newer version of itself, and how to spot the retired Zipline-based planpage plugin.

The server sends a shorter version of the same loop to every client as its instructions, so Claude, Cursor and other clients follow it too.

Install it

Run this once (and again to update). It downloads the current skill, version 1.3.0, to ~/.claude/skills/planpage/SKILL.md:

mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/planpage && curl -fsSL https://app.planpa.ge/skill/SKILL.md -o ~/.claude/skills/planpage/SKILL.md

You can also ask Claude Code to "set up the planpage skill". It calls the get_skill tool, which returns the file, its version and the install path, and writes it for you.

If you used the old planpage plugin that stored pages in Zipline, remove it with claude plugin uninstall planpage. The skill replaces it.

Keep it up to date

The skill carries a version number in its header. get_skill always returns the latest one, and the skill tells the agent to replace its copy when the server's version is newer. Running the install command again does the same.

Prompts

The server also offers two prompts. In Claude Code they appear as slash commands under the server's name.

Prompt Argument What it does
Plan a task in planpage (/mcp__planpage__plan) task: what needs planning Runs the whole loop for the task: find or choose the project, start a session, search, publish with steps, decisions and questions, submit for review, and reply with the link and a summary. It tells the agent not to start until the plan is approved.
Address review feedback (/mcp__planpage__address_feedback) document: a document id or URL Reads the feedback, keeps your edits, picks and answers, fixes what the comments ask, replies to and resolves comments, submits again and summarises what changed.

Use the second one after you request changes, pasting the link from the review email or your Inbox.
