This walk-through assumes you have connected an agent and, for Claude Code, installed the planpage skill.
1. Ask for a plan
Give your agent a task bigger than a quick fix and ask it to plan first. For example:
Plan the move from session cookies to Better Auth in planpage before changing anything.
With the skill installed, Claude Code does this on its own for plan-shaped tasks. Without it, say "in planpage" in the request, or use the plan prompt described in The planpage skill.
The agent then:
- Finds the project for this repository, or asks you which one to use if it's the first time in this folder.
- Searches earlier plans and decisions in planpage on the same area.
- Publishes the plan and submits it for review.
- Replies in chat with the document link and a short summary, then waits or stops.
2. Open it from your Inbox
The plan appears in your Inbox under Needs you, in the group Waiting for your review. The row tells you what it needs from you, such as "2 decisions open" or "Approve or request changes". Click it to open the document.
You can also follow the link the agent posted in chat. If you turned on push or email notifications, those link to the same page. See Notifications.
3. Read and respond
A plan reads like a normal document, with a few blocks you can act on:
- Steps are the units of work, numbered in order.
- Decisions list options. The agent's choice is labelled "Agent recommends" but nothing is selected until you pick.
- Questions ask you something. Required ones must be answered before you can approve. Suggested answers appear as buttons, and you can always write your own.
- Checklists can be ticked.
Above the text, a line headed Before you can approve lists every decision and required question, with a mark for each one that's done. Click an item to jump to it.
To comment, use the comment button beside a block, or select some text and click Comment.
4. Approve or request changes
The bar at the bottom of the page has two buttons.
- Approve plan accepts this version. The agent can start work.
- Request changes opens a box for a note. The agent gets the note together with your open comments, revises the plan and submits a new version.
The agent reads your note, comments, picks, answers, ticks and any edits you made with a single call to get_feedback.
5. Watch the work
Once the plan is approved, an agent with Publish and run access marks each step in progress and done as it goes, and links commits and pull requests to the steps. When it finishes, it posts a report as a new document linked to the plan, and the plan moves to Done. Follow the work covers what you see along the way.
